Black Panther Earns Rs.1240 cr in The Opening Weekend Worldwide

Marvel superhero flick Black Panther has the highest opening Hollywood superhero film in India. The film has opened to approximately Rs 15 crore weekend at the Indian box office. This is also the biggest opening for any Hollywood film in India in 2018. Black Panther, starring Chadwick Boseman in the lead role, opened to mostly positive reviews on February 16. The Ryan Coogler-directorial has blown away the record for the largest opening for an African-American director which belonged to F Gary Gray and The Fate of the Furious, which opened to $98 million (Rs 632.63 cr) last April, reports CNN. Black Panther set a new record for a February opening, besting Deadpool, which started with $132.4 million and $152.2 million for the same three- and four-day weekend in 2016. It’s also the third-biggest opening for a superhero movie: The Avengers opened with $80 million and Avengers: Age of Ultron opened with $84 million. Black Panther is the first Marvel film to be led by a person of color -- Chadwick Boseman -- and featuring a virtually all-black cast with Michael B Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, and Danai Gurira, with Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman being a few exceptions. On the other hand, Bollywood film Aiyaary that released alongside Black Panther failed to register any substantial number at the ticket window. The Sidharth Malhotra- starrer has gathered Rs 11.70 crore in first three days.
