Roger Federer Won Sixth Australian Open and 20th Grand Slam Title
Federer like Serena Williams had
redefined the limitations. After going nearly 5 years without a major title, he
had won 3 of the last 5 in a phase of his career. He insisted that he would
have been contented with just one more title. He said that I have won three
Slams in 12 months and I can't believe it myself. He also said that it’s a
dream to come true and the fairytale continues. Federer secured his sixth
Australian Open by recovering his mojo to hold off Marin Cilic
(6-2,6-7{5},6-3,3-6,6-1) in a closed roof in Rod Laver Arena. Federer is the
oldest man to win the Open since one of his role models, Ken Rosewall, in 1972.
It was played on grass in the instigate of Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club. Federer (36)
became only the fourth player after Margaret Court, Serena Williams and Steffi
Graf to win 20 or more major singles titles. BBC Tennis Correspondent Russell
Fuller said that Federer had previously won 19, a man who's never done it
before proved and showed no sign of aging. He is too good for the rest of the
Tennis world.
