He also said that we have to pass this bill and protect Muslim women. The comment was echoed by President Ram Nath Kovind in a customary address to a joint session at the start of the session. He said that the dignity of Muslim women had been hostage to political interests for many decades. Now the whole country had an opportunity to change that situation.

10 Facts and Updates on the budget session of the Parliament:

3. The government and the opposition met yesterday for an all-party meeting to discuss the session. The Opposition plans to counter the government on rising incidents of rapes, the alleged "attack" on constitutional institutions and the plight of traders. 8. The BJP strongly supports the abolition of instant triple talaq, which has been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. The bill proposes a three-year jail term and a possible fine for any Muslim man guilty of the offense.
9. The BJP also hopes to consolidate its support among backward classes by giving constitutional status to the OBC commission, which will make it more powerful.
